I watched “A man, a bike, a commitment” on the Startribune.com. http://www.startribune.com/slideshows/16799551.html
This slideshow was appoximately 2 and half minutes long and the slides changed every 4-5 seconds. The length was actually nearly perfect. It set up the situation, didn’t go on about useless information, got to the problem, and explained the conclusion. Clear, Concise, and effective…or…Short, Sweet, and to the point. This show began by showing pictures of the grotesquely obese man doing whatever it is that grotesquely obese men do, and it had him talking in the background about how he couldn’t do all these things that are really important (hang out with his daughter in the park becuase he coudn’t fit in the car). It goes on to describe what he was going to do about the problem while showing pictures of his family and family gatherings. He then talks about riding his bike and having his bike custom made while it shows pictures of him riding a bike and sporting his custom made bike. It concludes showing the suprisingly skinning man hanging out with his wife and daughter around the house and in the yard. There are a few points in the story where the pictures and the focus don’t really match an it creates a little bit of unclarity, but overall I think the slideshow works really well.

So in between watching rocknrolla religiously, doing homework, playing drums, hanging out with friends a family,Lord of the Rings marathons, and workin on/cleaning my car a shadow has swept over my mind. Recently a girl asked me why I didn’t like girls…this led to a few other questions that ultimately led to her insinuation that I was gay, which I am certainly not. I’ve been watching a lot of movies lately and i think I am starting to understand the lingering uncertainty draped over ever intellectual young-adult’s mind. Our whole lives have been one great big propaganda film. I watched Bedtime Stories with Adam Sandler and Keri Russel the other night (with my family of course) and as I was watching it, I realized that it was totally crap. The movie itself was cute and entertaining and whatnot, but if you really looked into it…it was just ludacrus. This woman who is supposed to be this intellectual has-her-shit-together chick is swept off her feet over the course of a single day. Adam Sandler bumps into her at the beach, it starts raining, they run under and bridge, her tells her she is the fairest lady in the kingdom, and BAM instant close-up on a beautiful teary-eyed face like this deep, smart, attractive woman has never been told that she is sexy. So from this story I am to surmise that: all it takes to win a woman’s heart is to tell her that she’s pretty. Now, let me go ahead and tell you I am one of the most overly-affectionate guys I know, and every girl that I have EVER dated has been told that she was beautiful in some way shape or form 365 days a year. But guess what. Little romantic Timmy is still single and has been that way for a little over three years, and it’s been a great three years, but… I’m only human. So, Disney has screwed it up. Not only is it this way in Bedtime Stories, but every Disney movie ever made has this same superficial message. So, I told little girly mcgirlpants that it was alllllll Disney’s fault that I am the way I am. But then after seeing the newest Fast and Furious movie I realized that, that couldn’t true. In this movie Paul Walker gets back with original girlfriend Mia (what happened to Eva Mendez?). He achieves this with a few corny lines about how he is the bad guy pretending to be the good guy and all he knows how to do is lie. So far this sounds kinda like the Disney routine right? Well there’s more. Mia rejects his first attempt to get back with her, but is swept off her feet by his brash, manly decision to drive right into the heart of the badguy’s camp, steal the boss, race across the desert, escape gunfire, live through a 4-wheeled dogfight in a narrow tunnel, kill the guy who killed her sister-in-law, take the bad guy to jail, and clear her brother’s name. Ahhhhh so now you see. There is more to true love than idle compliments; you must also participate in some outlandish sequence of life-threatening, death-defying, action scenes to conquer the one you love. In simple terms: storm the castle, rescue the princess, kill the evil knight. Well, just where in the hell am I going to get wrapped up into some rediculous car chase scene. Where am I, little Pacian Timm Showalter going to go to get shot at. What noble battle do I have to fight, and what nation’s princess needs rescuing. Nowhere. Nowhere. None. And None. I’m a 20 year old toad. I hop my little way over to school, hop over to the house for some flies, and hop over to sluggo’s to socialize. That’s it. So to wrap all this up and try to draw some point or purpose out of spending 30 minutes on the computer typing out into nothing, that’s what’s wrong with me. I’m not gay. I’m not weird. And I’m not a recluse. I’m simply confused. All the precepts of my knowledge on love are so dramatized and sensationalized that I get bored with the simple lets-go-out-to-eat lets-go-to-the-movies lets-go-makeout-on-the-beach style of relationships. It’s boring. B-O-R-I-N-G. I want to use to quantum phaser jet to fly over the cocaine dealers camp, parachute my way into his hideout guns blazing, save the girl, say some corny lines like, “My parachute must not of opened cus I see an angel,” kill the badguy, and ride off into the sunset on my next adventure. So Disney shares the blame with hollywood…their sensationalism of romance has been beaten into the minds of kids through very refined 64 in plasma T.V’s since the moment they crawled out of their mother’s belly. I apoligize for the my-life-is-a-romantic-comedy-and-i-am-a-teenaged-drama-queen reutine…but it was all I had tonight.

The video about the crisis in darfur had the biggest emotional impact just through the words of the interviewees. The girl who was talking about being raped kept trying to drape her hood over her face while she was talking about it. Shots that really capture people’s physical reactions to an emotional situation often help to magnify what is being conveyed. So I’d say sections of the video that were doine exceptionally well were the capturing of emotionals and shame or fear in the people who were on camera. I’d say the shots were really the reporters strongpoint. He really portrayed the members of the story in such a way that really grabs the viewer and says, “HEY! this is really happening.” I mean just seeing how the interviewees react to the flys that keep lading on their faces…or lack or reaction to the flies landing on their faces really shows how many worlds apart we are here in America from the people in this reservation. I had to go look up with the jangaweed was. So he could have gone a little farther to explain what exactly the jangaweed was in this video…seeing as how they are a major variable in the stories being told in this video.

I really like being in front of the camera. I love to be the center of attention. I did get kinda sketchy cuz a bunch of people walked in during my section. It is a little frustrating trying to get it 100 percent right without screwing up or making a funny face or anything in one whol shot. Being behind the camera is cool becuase you have control, but it is a little nerve wracking trying to make sure everything is even and balanced and focused, etc.

I’ve been alive for awhile and I have realized that everyone is full of shit. O no bad words…they are words and they do nothing. Ideas are more harmful than “bad words.” As a friend of mine said…you can’t kill an idea. But to expand upon my first comment: everything from friends to pastors to bosses to strangers on the highway; everyone is full of shit. The “rockers” or “emo” or “punk” or whatever you call them kids are supposed to be exemplifying this, “Fuck the man, down with government and up with independent thought,” ideal. But by bringing something as pure and sincere and romantic as music down to the level of fashion and consumerism kills all hope of this goal. So for some reason, in my generation, a girl with bleached blonde hair, big sunglasses, tight pants, outlandish skirt/sweater combinations, and a old volkswagon bus is supposed to be a musically cultured, free-thinking, authority on all things regarding this idea. Yet, she’s too busy buzzing away on her cell-phone (often while driving) or following boy to boy to boy to show to show to show being played by trash trash and the trashy music rapers. But she’s “ascended” or “transcended” or blandscended or supercalifracoliscended so she must be intelligent. She talks about stars so she must be deep. She listens to fall out boy so she must be cultured. cmon… This is the typical biproduct of the modern college education. Sheltered little boys and girls all of the sudden end up in a room listening to a liberal bigot blast his opinion and cuss and talk down to, “all the stupid little redneck kids who won’t vote for Obama becuase he’s black,” so now all these students have their, “minds opened.” They start listening to tool and dropping acid. Yet instead of savoring the bliss or explosion of art they are certain to behold they are too busy arguing about how “high” they are.

The fish on the back of a car. It’s the omen of the cultivation of evil. When driving safely, considerately, and modestly down the highway the worst thing I have ever laid eyes on is that damn fish on the back of people’s cars. These people drive like maniacs; as if this fish is going to protect them from all the dangers of sustaining a movement speed of 50+ miles per hour. Somewhere along the line I learned that this fish represents, “Christians.” I wonder how powerful your faith is when you have to degrade, package, and mass produce it in the form of a little magnetic fish. This opens the door to my next point. Christ lived a life of example. The only reason any of you follow him is becuase he set an example. Or maybe it’s that most of you are too ignorant and immature and young to really think that anything else could possibly going on here. What if its bigger than god…what if you’re removing all the beauty and mystery and majesty of “life” by trying to cut, package, and mass produce it in the form of “God.” Anyway back to exemplified lifestyles. If you are one of those assholes who has fish on the back of your car and cut people off, speed, act like you’re the only person of the whole road; then stop for a second and think what you could be making all your ideals and beliefs look like to the rest of the world. The next time you consider walking up to my front door and asking me if I know if I’m going to heaven why don’t you instead go sit in your closet out of sight of all public judgement and pray your ass off that you don’t go to hell for being such a worthless attempt at evangelism. The other day I had an encounter with one of these, “Door to door evangelists.” Believe me…God doesn’t need you to halfheartedly sell him to strangers. Anyway, after explaining to the man that I was going to heaven he was quick to ask me how I knew. Luckily I had spent enough time in church to know how to properly answer these questions. What really bothered me about the whole situation is that the guy asking me if I was going to heaven was the same piece of trash who had a privacy fence built around his FRONT yard to keep the black people that lived next-door to him out of his yard. JESUS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN WHITE…HE LIVED IN THE MIDDLE EAST. “Well friend…you were a great guy and you tried your darndest and gave it your all but….well you can’t get into heaven because you’re black.” WHAT IS GOING ON!?

Finally I will end this little temper tantrum by discribing the events involving the newest member of my parents church. I go to appease them. I was there listening to the pastor explain how, “This church is a better place because of so and so.” Hmmm….did Jesus just become a member of the congregation? Why is this man any better for the church than any other? Well, he’s going to teach a seminary right here in good ole Pace Florida. Now when he got up to speech I knowticed meny thengs such as hes spektakular gremmer or his very “confident” demeanor…etc etc….but what really caught me off-guard…and you’d never expect this from a Pace Christian…is the fact that he said, “I want to further the work of God to all the nations of the world.” Really? Well, tell me mr. curious, what in the world does Pace need with another spiritual figure and how exactly are you going to spread the word to all the nations here? Telepathy, ESP, THE INTERNET!? The truth is this guy is doing nothing to accomplish anything, but instead of realizing this like intelligent “free-thinking” people our friends at the congregation just stare back with the fish faces and cow grins buying into every word this phony says.

There is no rock and roll revolution…
There is no belief by action…
There is no sincerity…

There are just trashy human beings who do not care about anything but themselves, and their big SUV, and their fat bowl of popcorn and sunday night football.

I went to a show at the handlebar the other night and saw a few bands I can’t remember and The Gills. First off…I think it’s hella frustrating that everytime I go to one of these things it’s the same bunch of nobodies and flunkies from high school. I saw people who were a few years older than me that had REAL potential to do something substantial with music. Instead these people are content with doing nothing and accepting this placebo to satiate their desires to play music. It hurts my heart. Second, Holy crap; The Gills. These guys are outta control. I was skeptical at first becuase of previous encounters I’d had with individuals from the band in the past, it didn’t help my skepticism that they opened up for Sheryl Crow. ANYWAY…definently an A+ for the Gills. The guitar playing is pretty simple and the vocals take some getting used to BUT the bass player and the drummer are out of control. The bass player was freakin out jumpin all over the place and he was funkin it up to pieces on that bass. Their drummer would have made Tomas Pridgeon proud and occasionally sings at the same time. Not to be left out of the spotlight, their redheaded guitar player, Allan Castleberry, has some intense psychadelic sections I left the show with a renewed zest for playing music.

WASHINGTON - Stars and every-day run-o-the-mill people all joined in today to heed Obama’s call to service. On their to-do list:

· Build a school

· Pick up trash

· Donate blood

· Feed the hungry

· Build book shelves for local libraries

Not an easy to-do list for a single day.

Who was Involved? Luckily this heroic mission came complete with an equally heroic cast including names like Usher, Brandon Routh, Toby Macguire, Oprah Winfrey, and other names you may not have heard like Steve Groves, Nadine McMillon, and Helen Nasillski.

The Big Boys do their Part. Not to be left out of the fun, Obama and Biden made sure to visit emergency housing for homeless teens and hang drywall at a Habitat for Humanity. A Washington county local food bank boasted, “In the tons,” of donations received.

Statistics. To help match volunteers with projects a website was set up by the Presidential Inaugural Committee containing over 11,000 posted service jobs. Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Delaware alone expect a record 65,000 people to participate in the day’s activities.
